A colleague of mine was attacked by a Brown Goshawk in the Black Mountain
bushland. Apparently the nest was close to the walking trail, thus the bird was
being defensive. My colleague received a talon slash across the upper arm.

Subject: raptors in the suburbs
Both Brown Goshawks and Collared Sparrowhawks are regularly recorded
throughout suburban Canberra; indeed in winter, nearly all ACT records are
suburban. We live within 1k of the city centre, and have already recorded
both species this year (plus a Little Eagle).
Part of Black Mountain (nature reserve just down the road a bit) was
signposted by the parks service last spring to warn joggers about an
especially aggressive nesting BGH!
Cheers,
Ian
