I think I am getting to the heart of the problem. This thread which contains 
contributions for the yaffs main man Charles Manning finishes with a simple 
unanswered question.

Eddie has said that TS do run tests but did not give any detail. It would be 
interesting to know if these include power cycle tests and power cycle during 
flash write.
