Eddie,

is there any more information you would like off this board in order to 
investigate the cause of the problem?

This failure has cost far more time that it warrants. We will need to erase it 
and see if we can recover something useful.

I have been looking at the output of nanddump but am hitting the ceiling of how 
much time I can throw at this.

Please let me know if there is anything you want preserved.
