Hi everyone,
I just thought I'd say something in defense of TS - they are not in the
business of selling software. TS is not a software vendor.
They do sell a decent arm platform at a reasonably low cost. Considering
the amount of support that Cirrus has (or rather has not) provided for
their chips & free / open source software, I would say TS is doing a
very good job.
The Linux that TS ships is quite old but it's really only for
demonstration purposes. Also, busybox cannot be expected to be a fully
fledged scripting environment. I still experience bugs with busybox
'which', 'pidof', and 'reboot' to name a few.
Considering that TS is very open to community suggestions and also very
helpful, I think if the community were to get together and build the
linux distribution that they wanted, then there would be no more noise
on the list about shortcomings. TS would likely be very helpful to the
group as a whole.
I was a Gentoo user long before I started using TS devices, but I found
that Portage makes a great build system and package manager (with qmerge
residing on the device).
There is also the possibility to use ipkg, for die-hard debian-ish
people, although I feel that Gentoo's packaging system is far superior :)
Anyone is free to check out my overlays

or my binpkgs

or my toolchains

But I would highly suggest first reading

or seeing as how the gentoo-wiki is down at the moment maybe check out

Cheers,
