 From a looking at www.debian.org it doesn't look like a package named 
ncurses exists.

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=ncurses&searchon=names&subword=1&version=oldstable&release=all

I typically uses debian.org's package search feature to find the proper 
name for a package...
