Learning how to use linux is mostly about learning how to find answers to your questions quickly. There are a great many resources around the net. It takes time to learn the best ones to go to first. If you go to the linux documentation project www.tldp.org click on the howto links and look at chapter 3 of the kernel analysis howto, section 2 answers your question. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/KernelAnalysis-HOWTO-3.html#ss3.2 Another explanation can be found at http://www.tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Dictionary/html/u.html under user-level (user mode). I am sure there are many more explanations available, you just need to learn how to find them. Try going to www.google.com/linux and entering the term kernel space. The first thing that comes up is a concise definition. Sometimes it is better for people to explain how to find the answer than it is to state the answer.
