Still not a lot to go on, so this is best guess hand waving...
An snmp approach could be a heavyweight work effort for this. You'd
probably have to design suitable mib structures to cover the data you want
to monitor. Then you'd have to write the snmp agent that gathered and
populated relevant data and served the snmp data in response to snmp
queries.
While you've got to decide what data you need to monitor and code the the
software to do the monitoring server/client, I'm sure there would be
easier ad-hoc methods than doing it with snmp.
