I haven't run across many NIC's that can auto negotiate that aren't gigabit... What do you use?

By dummy he means looping back some of the control signals to make a system that hardware handshaking is working, like looping back request to send to clear to send. Cables like that will work, but no need. Make sure you turn off hardware handshaking in your terminal program.

Also, almost all modern ethernet ports can detect that the tx and rx are crossed and adjust. I have only used normal off the shelf ethernet cables. Don't mess with ethernet crossover cables.

I only can spec about what is a dummy and full handshaking cables but you only need a cable without handshaking (but anyone will do the job for the TS)
