This project may have taken a different route
if I'd happened on this at the same time as
the 93xx:

     http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/product_card.asp?part_id=2983
     http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/app_notes.asp?family_id=605

I'd known about the AT91RM9200 but never really
paid much attention to the device.  Rattling
around on Atmel's site recently I tripped over
it again and decided to take a closer look.

Very close functionally to the 9302 sans FPU and
A/D.  The I2S also generates rather offensive
frame rates and lacks a master clock output which
is a pity.  However it adds support for USB target,
direct CF/SD/NAND flash, and if I read correctly
much lower power consumption.

Support/documentation appears to leave Cirrus in
the dust.  Even a BSDL right there on the product
page.  Imagine that.  ;)
