There is also the counter suggestion (actually a provable reality) that dis=
similar metals (in this case gold and steel contact points) in an acid bath=
(our polluted air) with an electric current flowing between them (audio si=
gnal) constitutes an electroplating situation & that electroplate takes the=
form of tarnish/corrosion building up on the point of contact, thus increa=
sing resistance and decreasing conductivity. This may seem like a very long=
shot not to be worried over but I have seen many patchbays in theaters wit=
h exactly this problem when they use a mix of nickel steel and brass patchb=
ay plugs and jacks and leave the connections made permanently.
