It is not static - it is an intermittent contact that is the problem. This= is made far worse when there is DC on the line as with PIP, as the slightes= t variation in contact resistance produces AC interference. Pro equipment uses different plugs and sockets like XLR, but with small devices, we are stuck with small plugs. Gold plated 3.5mm plugs give a more reliable, lower resistance, contact as= some of the gold rubs off onto the opposite contact and also gold doesn't oxidise, but you have to take care of them and they have a limited lifespan= . |
