Subject: 5mm plugs and line sockets can be soldered on as replacement plugs and
sockets such as extension leads, but this is fiddly and needs good solderin=
g
equipment and technique and this never makes as neat a job as a moulded plu=
g
or socket.

An alternative is to lop off a worn plug, cut up a new gold plated lead and=

make a join in the cord. I encase such joins in heatshrink tubing which
leaves a stiff section but it works.

With a worn socket in a recorder, I would try an external mic power source=

which is cheaper than a new recorder.
