The problem could also be that the weight of the cable has slightly deflected 
the jack, causing a microfracture on the circuit board. These sort of 
non-professional devices rarely if ever have connectors secured to the case. 
They are soldered to the PCB & thus any stress upon the jack is transferred to 
the circuit board.
