If you read through the list archives, you'll find many postings about peop=
le (including me) nervous about soldering capsules.

My EM172s came with short leads attached, so I was able to wire them up wit=
hout any direct soldering. Unfortunately one of them fell off during constr=
uction, so I did have to solder. Following advice given here, I was able to=
 do it without doing any damage.

I had some previous soldering experience so I had an advantage, but it woul=
d be a pity to limit yourself because of this. There will inevitably be lea=
ds to solder, so it would be worth getting a soldering iron and learning. P=
ractice is cheap, and there are many soldering tutorials on Youtube.
