Hi John,

You are correct that low-pass filtering a recording prior to the MP3 encodi=
ng procedure can help prevent MP3 artifacts at frequencies below that cut-o=
ff frequency. Such kind of filtering would just reduce the analog bandwidth=
 of the signal that is fed into the MP3 encoder, which will finally preserv=
e more bits for the correct representation of the signal in the remaining f=
requency range.
