Has anyone else found that preparing a track in advance for the MP3 128 kbp=
s compression by filtering complex high frequency content above around 14 k=
Hz in can help avoid bad sounding MP3 artifacts?

The ideal format of the original(made downloadable from Soundcloud)file may=
depend on the intended use. If the artist is comparing techniques or micro=
phones, asking for recommendations on post production, or otherwise expecti=
ng critical analysis then a high resolution WAV or FLAC may be best. Otherw=
ise I consider MP3 320 kbps high quality for general use, and one nice thin=
g about MP3 is one can easily embed album art and a wide variety of ID3 met=
adata into the downloadable file.
