Microphones that run on phantom power do require more power than PIP microphones. If, for example, the microphone requires 1 mA, which would be= on the high side for a PIP microphone but on the low side for a phantom powere= d microphone, then the PIP mic would be taking 3 milliWatts and the phantom powered microphone would be taking 48 mW. Given that a more typical curren= t consumption for PIP is 0.5 mA and 3-4 mA for phantom powered, then it is no= t at all surprising that using phantom power really sucks down the batteries! Perhaps I should design a very low current phantom powered microphone for portable use. Eric Benjamin |
