As an amateur recording engineer/enthusiast, I would definitely buy one aga=
in. I have a DR680 that I use for surround-sound nature and point-of-view =
recording in the field and concert location recording indoors. Having 6 ba=
lanced analog microphone inputs is the key for these applications although =
8 would be ideal. The ability to run from internal (limited duration) or e=
xternal (longer duration) battery power is also essential. Sound quality i=
s very good and noise levels sufficiently low for nature recording with sen=
sitive microphones (I use Rode NT-1's). The ability to upgrade firmware, s=
uch as past addition of M/S decoding, should extend its useful life. If yo=
u are a professional with corresponding higher budget you could also consid=
er the 8 channel Tascam portable unit.
