I don't see how this can fail to generate a stereo image. If you keep shrinking it you will finish up with a Jecklin disk which has similar directional properties. The only proviso I can think of is that a smaller size will reduce the stereo effect at lower frequencies. Any mic close to a reflecting surface will get a 6dB lift at right angles. This is a fundamental property of longitudinal waves. The phase/time difference effect is only really audible on headphones or from a fixed position with an ideal speaker setup. BTW, has anyone actually measured the time delay on a SASS from say 60 degrees? 175mm path length difference gives about 60ms. Our ears can distingush about 1ms.
