I don't know Macs, but when the unreliable Sonic Stage software used to fai=
l on me I connected the HiMD to the "mic in" of my PC with a minijack and r=
ecorded from the sound card using Total Recorder (free). Much better to try=
and get a Sony M10 or Olympus LS11 though...

a friend in the same situation, purchased a used HI-MD for use as a drop r=
ecorder, and then realized there was no support in his mac. =C2=A0In the en=
d...he purchased the cheapest old used PC he could find(I think he picked o=
ne up for about $30 at a yard sale), cleared everything but the OS, loaded =
sonic stage(sony's proprietory program to manage minidiscs), and uses it on=
ly to convert upload his files, convert them to wav, then moves them via ju=
mp drive or some such to his mac. =C2=A0Cumbersome, but it works.

i-MD to Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion). It is only now, after I bought a used Sony MD=
player, the mic capsules and built a battery box, that I thought to check =
that the files could be imported/ exported OK to my MacBook. I tried the l=
atest Sony file for Mac and I get the message that the software is no longe=
r working; certainly the MD is not recognised as a separate device on the M=
acBook. Sony, it appears, have thrown in the towel on developing a new one=
.

ven that I had read that the preamps aren't bad for such a small unit and t=
hat the files can record relatively uncompressed. I thought this would mak=
e a neat setup and leave rig for field recording. This certainly won't be =
the case if there isn't a way to get the files off the discs and into a DAW=
.
