> I was looking at just a single mic
David,
In other words two mics mounted in one body. You have a stark choice
here whether to give up the directionality of your mono mic, for
stereo with a wide pickup angle including behind the mic and top and
bottom.
I'd favour Gianni's idea of buying another 66 as I use a similar rig
with good directional results. Before anyone says you should use a
matched pair, I'll say that is not neccessary but the explanation is
technical.
The only other solution is to add a fig-8 mic mounted next to the 66
to make an M-S (mid-side or mono-stereo) pair but M-S is a whole new
ball game. You'll also need a good blimp windshield. The mono pickup
area will be directional, the forward stereo imaging will be good, but
it will pick up S signal sounds from a nearly omnidirectional area. On
second thoughts I think this solution would be too problematical with
all of your kit. I've got a Canon 5D with a rucksackfull of lenses and
I can't cope with recording as well. That's in another large rucksack.
