Question from John, Welcome Joel How much bandwidth would a live 5.1 stream chew up? Hi John, The short answer - A 48K dial-up service can completely pass the 5.1 compressed data stream. The decompression software in the listener's computer will decode that compressed audio stream into CD quality 5.1 surround sound. The long answer - The following is taken from Wikipedia. AAC is a wideband <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wideband> audio coding algorithm that exploits two primary coding strategies to dramatically reduce the amount of data needed to represent high-quality digital audio. |
