James, I think what is new is a better tailored noise profile as well as the algorithm. One problem is a tinkling effect on the verge of the trigger level, for instance with leaf rustle, but if you set the frequency smoothing to 500 this disappears. Pre-filtering, such as a HPF roll-off before NR prevents "gravel" being carried over to the foreground sounds, making them cleaner. Any noise reduction kills atmos and reverberation in woods, etc, but the trick is to mix back the original and by how much is an artisitic judgement. I tend to use the unfiltered original and keep it low, but I'm ready to learn other techniques. David David Brinicombe North Devon, UK Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum - Ambrose Bierce |
