There are infinitely many valid alternatives to ORTF. Here's a good online= resource for checking out other configurations. It's a Java application th= at estimates coverage for various spacings and microphone patterns. http://www.hauptmikrofon.de/ima2-folder/ImageAssistant2.html It's not foolproof but it certainly gives on a good idea what will happen. = It's interesting to look at the results for XY (no spacing), ORTF (17 cm and 110= degrees) and NOS (30 cm and 90 degrees).
