Hi Emil--
Good find! I was looking over the MBHO mic offerings a few months
back. Could it be new?
The specs suggest 7db(A) self-noise to me. The sensitivity is on the
low side but workable (14 mV/Pa). With the head separated from the
xlr barrel, one might be able to mount it in a number of ways. As-is,
mounted perpendicular to a small boundary, its very similar to
Crown's PCC or Phase Coherent Cardioid Mic http://tinyurl.com/24xywsv
The PCC is the closest cousin I know of to Curt's wooden boundary
mics-- the most common version being the Parallel Boundary with omni
mics. The tone of cardioid mics on a boundary is usually a little
warmer and the polar pattern is a little more front directional as
you would expect.
MBHO makes quality mics. I can imagine trying the capsules in a some
boundary arrays that might work better for spatial imaging than the
small perp2 plates, so I'm wondering if the mic be separated from the
plate and if MBHO would give someone one to test. Rob D.
