I am in your same boat. I have recorded sound for years (two
guitarists sons), but have recently started to try nature recording. =
When I was considering microphones, I have read a lot and have two
Rode NT2-A's (not matched) and decided to test them. I did this test
last night recording from the mics in a stereo pair pointed at around
70 degrees from each other straight into a Sound Devices 702. To what
I'm sure is my poorly trained ear, they sounded pretty good ;-) I am
new to the group and am obviously NOT an expert.
I intend to record here in Kentucky, in Colorado (my second love) and
anywhere else I travel. I'm mostly a photographer, but the sound
thing really intrigues me.
So I have a few questions. I would appreciate the more experienced
ears to listen to this mp3 of a simple recording around our pond and
tell me how they think the mics sound. I did a small EQ adjustment in
Logic to tune the crickets down some (damped the very high
frequencies) and did a minor compression. Other than that you hear
what I got.

Second, I'd love to hear what stereo pair others find the best in
three ranges. Moderately priced, very good and pricey, and if money
is no object (we can always dream).
Thanks for the input and I'm looking forward to learning from the group.
