Marantz PDM 661 Vs Fostex FR2 LE - which one should I buy??!

Hello all!

My first post! :)


It's also my first recorder that I will be buying. I'm new to field recordi=
ng and after much research on the internet and on this forum I think I have=
 narrowed it down to these two. (as these are both within my budget)


I will be recording mostly nature recordings, ambient sounds and samples.

I notice that the low floor noise of the Fostex is mentioned quite frequent=
ly. Does this mean that if I am recording quite delicate sounds, that the M=
arantz may give off more noise, or hum??


Any thoughts on these models would be fab - or are they both much of the sa=
me, so I should just go with the smaller, lighter Marantz??

As a newbie, any help is greatly appreciated,
