If you want redundancy, you can record to TWO CF cards at once on a 702 by
adding an external Firewire CF card "reader". I use the SanDisk Extreme which
can do Firewire 800 once hooked up to a computer but records fine via Firewire
400 from the 702.
Because this is external CF attached with a cable to the Firewire jack, it's
not as secure as the 722's internal hard drive / CF redundancy. But so far I
haven't lost anything. The 722, by the same token, can do triple redundancy,
recording to internal HD, internal CF, and external HD or CF simultaneously.
A 722 with hard drive spinning is fairly quiet, but with just CF it's
definitely quieter. Definitely a difference for quiet field recordings where
the
mikes are close to the recorder. You can spin down the HD on a 722 if you need
that extra quiet.
SSD hard drive replacements are getting bigger and cheaper for the 722, but
at the same time CF cards continue getting bigger and cheaper too. 16GB is
over 25 hours of stereo 44.1 16 bit. Last one I bought was two months ago,
under
$35.
