I'm not sure what extra heat, electrical noise, and power use the HDD
incurs. However, logic dictates that it MUST add these things to the
equation. And a spinning drive in the field is more susceptible to
dropping shock than a CF card. If you are in the situation where mains
power is available, you can still connect an external drive to the 702
for recording use.

If space is an issue in the field, get more CF cards. It's reasonably
cost effective and they take up no room in your gear bag.

And a thought on data security. I think I read here recently that a
SD7xxx was stolen, but I could be thinking of Tapersection.com.
Anyhoooo, all the data went with it too I suspect. If you have a full
CF card in your pocket after putting in another to continue recording,
at least that chunk of data won't get stolen. Or get into the habit of
taking it out when not using the recorder. (Like leaving it in your
hotel room when going to dinner)

For the record, I have the 702.

Regards
John
