i'm afraid the disc-cloning method that has saved some of us countless
regular md's over the years doesn't work with the hi-md format. as far
as i know there is as of yet no way of recorvering hi-md data. if
anyone finds one let us know, i've got one dead disc i've been hanging
on to for a few years...

i've had one or two hi-md corrupted in the past - i presume it's
mechanical failure; a bit of dust getting into and scratching the disc
surface, or something like that. i reuse the discs countless times
after uploading and backing up recordings, so it doesn't surprise me if
i lose one now and again...
