This recording brings back memories, Martyn, of our hurricane season
in 2001. We had Hurricanes Charlie, Frances, and Jeanne within one
month's time!

On a related weather note, this is the time of year we get heavy fog.
Longtime residents get used to it and you learn when and where to
drive. However, the fog along the I-4 corridor through the Green
Swamp area of my county was especially heavy yesterday. Visibility
was zero and resulted in a catastrophic crash. Over 70 vehicles
involved with 4 deaths. The road was so severely damaged they are
still repairing it. In fact, they had to resurface it.

You can read about (and see pictures) of the whole event in our local
paper.

The fog was caused by something called inversion, where instead of
warmer air being at the earth's surface and colder air aloft, you get
the reverse. And the warmer air aloft holds the colder air down.
Hence the fog. As of 24+ hours later, the road is still closed.
