I agree with Aaron's comments & would add: -- Schoeps do a great (and free) VST plugin to convert MSM as they call it or Double MS as Aaron & many others call it to 5.1, Stereo etc. see http://www.schoeps.de/E-2004/news.html#surroundbrochure The 4060 DPA mics used in the Holphone are only fairly quiet; very low noise considering their size but are hardly the best choice for "Nature Recording" which often requires the ultimate in low noise performance. MSM would be a far better option IMO. If you don't mind a bulky mic array 2x Rode NT1a's + a NT2 could make a cheap & very low noise double MS array that would beat the Holophone easily. Schoeps Or Sennheiser mics would be considerably smaller & lighter but at greater cost. JL |
