I would say you had a fault on your unit. I did observe that the RH1
is a teeny bit noisier than my 1st gen NH700, particularly a 100Hz
component that I eventually traced to the OLED display that refreshes
at 100Hz as picked up with a photodiode (after shutting off every
piece of mains-powered equipment, PC etc as the obvious suspect was
hum from the UK 50Hz AC mains).
However, I didn't observe the motor affecting the noise on either the
RH1 or either of the two NH700s I have. On the subject of noise HiMD
is pretty good - you don't need a preamp for application with mics
even up to the Sennheiser MKH series with typical sensitivities of
25mV/Pa 12dB self noise. It is much better in that respect than the
current crop of cheap CF recorders at similar price points.
