What I was refering to was a +2dB increase in the noise on the
inputs, every 6 seconds or so when recorder writes to disc rather
than a noise emanating from the player.

The RH1 does look like the best way to go in many respects, but I was
curious if the supposedly noisy inputs and the motor noise refered to
above made it a less than optimal choice at that price point. I
guess not!
