Gianni,

Thank you for the additional clues.  From what you and Bernie have
written, what I recorded is likely an insect and not a frog.

I found a recent publication by The Xerces Society for Invertebrate
Conservation for my local area:

It has some descriptions of the beetles in those waters.  The photo
closest to resembling what I think I saw is the riffle beetle
(Elmidae) on page18.

Perhaps I'll pass my recording along to the author and see what he
thinks. And, I must return soon to record and observe again: maybe
I'll find something more definitive.
