It would take a powerful magnetic field to scramble an MD. Possible,
but unlikely.

I'm wondering about the possibility of operator error. One of the
great things about MD is that it starts a new track when you put it
into record, so you don't have to position the media before recording.

There's one exception, however. You can over-record a track by
putting it into record when it's in play-paused. Given that the track
was listened to...is it possible you hit record after pausing, rather
than stopping, play?
