Fwiw I have the old MD edit/transfer system from that company and have
recovered conventional MDs multiple times -- but AFAIK HiMD will not
be similarly recoverable. The problem is Sony's DRM, which I suspect
will also make old-school tricks like rewriting the TOC not work
either (I would love to be proved wrong, but don't anticipate it).

This is the achilles' heel of HiMD; I spend a fair amount of time in
the DIY pages on my website expressing concern/warning about it.

Sony's grudging momentum towards recognizing user needs/demands has
been positive; allowing one's own realtmne recordings to appear simply
as non-DRM files in the open mass storage section of the HiMD
filesystem, where they would be subject to recovery efforts, seems to
be the final, grandest battle for the medium...

...but I'm not holding my breathe though as signs point to it quietly
vanishing anyway... :(

My sincere condolences on your problem... I fear the worst. :(

 best,
  aaron
