Well the 722 can decode the MS signal while you are recording, so
what you end up with a normal stereo recording, no need for plugins
or anything else later.

I think if you heard good MS, you'd be pleasantly surprised at how
nice the stereo image can be. Using a hypercariod as a center will
help make the image 'wider' sounding, or more spacious.

Nothing wrong with AB or ORTF or XY either (although worth nothing,
XY and MS 'should' be identical sounding if the mics are flat off
axis, it's basically the same technique, a decoded MS track is XY).

But I also love MS because it's housed in a single Rycote, easy to
carry with me.

But experiment a bit.

I don't the 416 will match well to an MKH30, they're just too
different sounding. it can be done, any mic can pair with a figure 8
to do MS, but I don't think you'll be pleased with the results. The
416, as a lobar shotgun, won't have very nice sound off-axis, and
will be sonically different from an MKH30 that not sure what it would
sound like.
