And I'm sure Antonio wouldn't buy another if he wasn't happy. :-) 
I'm personally curious about using a R-4 as a second surround unit. 
As you suggest, the self noise of the ME' mics probably won't provide 
us an adequate comparison to other top performing decks we've tested. 
Was it Volker Widmann who was talking of buying a Quad mic and 
testing the noise performance of the line inputs? I'd be happy to 
compare the R-4's performance with and without an external pre to 
that of an 744T and HiMD should anyone have one they can spare for a 
few days. Last time we reached this juncture, no one close enough to 
Wisconsin had one, but perhaps this is no longer the case. Rob D.
