Edirol R-4 and performance

While in the Yucatan, I met a fellow member in this group, Antonio Celis.
He has been using for close on a year now the Edirol R-4.
Some time ago Lang Elliot had received some unfavorable reports from the
Oade brothers discrediting this machine before it basically hit the shops.
I can firmly say that this machine holds up extremely well in the field and
with the capability of recording 4 channels is a steal for the price of
around $1200. Antonio has used this it extremely humid conditions and
excessive heat for the duration, I have heard the results from the recorder
and I would fully recommend it to anyone. Battery life is also superb. What
gets me is how someone could discredit this machine without trying it out
first.
Since that first e-mail was circulated, Edirol dropped its price for the R-4
FROM $1800 PLUS.
It just goes to show that you shouldn't listen to everything you hear.
