MicroTrack 24/96

I thought I would buy a Microtrack 24/96 to take with me as a back up
recorder to Mexico. I picked it up today from a local shop for some $369.
First discovery (and forgive me if this has been covered before) Phantom
power is just 30v!! So the need to carry an alternative power source is a
must (more equipment to lug around) possible damage to other mics if you do
not know the phantom power source is only 30volts. (Out-of-spec voltages can
damage some mics)
Built in Battery (re-chargeable) Definitely a no go here, a unit like this
you would think would run on AA batteries for more convenience, once you are
in the field and you run down the battery, the machine becomes useless
unless you carry some form of rechargeable unit (like a solar power strip)

Has anyone actually used one of these in the field? I would be interested to
find out other peoples opinions before I take the bloody thing back!!!

I need some back up to my sound devices (I have HiMD but I wanted flashcard
options) Forget the Edirol, I don't like the look or feel of that, I don't
want to go as big as the marantz pmd-660 and the Nagra is built in flash of
only 1 GIG!!!!!!!!

Why the hell did M Audio use rechargeables?!!!

It maybe that I have to use the HiMD recorder but I hate the fact you can
only transfer ONCE!!!!!!!!!
