Japanese companies and especially Sony are notorious for long tediously
detailed staff and department meetings, sometimes lasting days on things
like what gauge wire to employ in a product. This, I believe, has resulted
in the small unmatched reliable products and efficient manufacturing
techniques that Sony is known for. Unfortunately it seems as though these
details get lost on the consumer relations end of things.
In contrast, Apple seems to always have the pulse of the consumer.
I don't remember ever hearing that the software of any Sony product being
outstanding and many times they have used Microsoft for this task. It is
indeed sad that they have spent a great deal of time on minidisc and may be
scrapping it. I hope that at least the HiMD discs will be available for som=
e
time to come.
 Best,
 Mark R.
