MS imbalance

Natalie mentioned feeling like her sound was louder at the sides after MS
decoding in the 722, with equal gain applied. When you're MS decoding in t=
he
input section, the 722 does apply equal gain to the two mikes with the firs=
t trim
control.

(The second trim control functions as a post-decoding left-right balance
control if you have firmware older than v 1.42, and as a width control for =
v 1.42
and up. Note that SD's updated manual for the 722, which supposedly represe=
nts
reality as of v 1.42, still describes the function of the second trim as pa=
n
rather than width. I've confirmed with SD that the release notes, and not t=
he
manual, are correct on this matter.)

One thing to check would be: is the pad switch on the body of the MKH40 mik=
e
switched in? That would result in a weaker middle than sides.

Another thing to confirm: are you sure the MKH40 mid mike is plugged to inp=
ut
1, and the MKH30 side mike is plugged to input 2 on the 722?

If you are OK on those scores, then make sure your 722 has v1.42 or higher=

firmware, and then use the second trim control to get the mid-to-sides bala=
nce
("width") you desire.
