A Usenet group, rec.arts.movies.production.sound... discussion, reviews,
FS, etc. from a mostly film/video location sound recording perspective. I
only discovered it a few months ago but it's an interesting community with
a lot of knowledge and field experience -- overlapping but certainly
distinct set of requirements for gear, not to mention budgets. :)

I read it via google groups:

 http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.arts.movies.production.sound

since I like the threading interface.

They've had some lengthy back-and-forth about the Sound Devices recorders,
and SD does not seem to be alone among manufacturers in monitoring and
responding to discussion there.

 best,
