Actually they just released the 671 which is a 24/96 version of the=20
670, both of which are larger than the 660. But supposedly the 671 has=20
much improved mic preamps over the 670, and also 24 bit is a nice=20
addition.
We took a 670 to Michigan when we recorded the steam train for Polar=20
Express, and let it run capturing a dynamic mic tapes near the smoke=20
stack, it worked well. I don't think the preamps are up to snuff for=20
quiet stuff, pretty noisy and bland sounding. But if the 671's are that =
much improved, then it's a heck of a bargain for a recorder.
My 722 is great, but not worth three times the money. Although it's=20
nice to be able to record 40 hours of material, it's a bit overkill. A=20
4 gig flash card holds plenty.
Street price seems to be about $850 for the 671.
