Supply voltage doesn't seem to affect gain for electret mics. It 
limits the maximum SPL. But I've recorded both thunder and fortissimo 
symphony with the 183s on PIP from a Sharp MD without mic clipping, 
so I think that that consideration comes up mainly in -really loud- 
ear-damaging rock situations I wouldn't be caught dead in.
