Rob,
It appears that you are refining your setup.  I am considering the
headphone mount but I usually wear a wide brim hat while outdoors so
I find the headphones a problem.. I have a set of in the ear cannel
buds from Sony that I like and I think I can use them with a set of
hearing protector cups that uses a band behind the neck in place of
over the head.  I have used the hearing muffs with a wide brim hat.=20
I would think my volume level is going to be higher than yours
because of my hearing loss.  The ear muffs should reduce more feed
back than the headphones.
