I use it at this setting without any fear because when I reduce the
attenuation ie: go up to the next gain stage i find the preamp sounds
"harsher"
I have used my mixer nearly every day for the last 5 years and can pick
the difference, some of my friends think i'm nuts and hear things that
aren't there.
But like you said, if you work with it a lot you can pick the
difference, I suppose it's like a mechanic that can notice when his
cars firing at 99%...
