This is just my favorite not the only geometry I use.

In a line.
An omni (left rear)
50' space
A SASS, sometimes the mkh modified (left front, right front)
50' space
An omni (right rear)

For recording:
RME Quadmic preamp

RME Multiface (32 channel 24/96 DSP which includes 8 analog inputs)

Toshiba 2.6 gig low end laptop (toshiba is known for a stable pci bus)

Batteries, the stock laptop 90 watthour lion plus 10 nimh C cells.

A custom built case to hold "the stuff" and move the heat of the
multiface to the front plate. 4 mic inputs balanced, 6 line
unbalanced outputs, 2 unbalanced line inputs, all contained on only 4
universal connectors. These connectors can also be reconfigured
quickly to different i/o's by changing locations of short patch
cables. This case is now at the second prototype and will be redone
one last time to an all aluminum and waterproof case.
