The problem is not in getting a mic to pick up sounds at the high
frequencies, but in getting it's sensitivity to anything like even at
various frequencies.
Some mics do have cut off filters in them, but a awful lot don't. But
don't expect linear response. It may work fine at one frequency, and not
at all at another. And those extremes may be so close together you will
only get part of the range of a call.
If you want a mic for 96khz sample rates such mics do exist, designed
for the job. The Sennheiser MKH-800 is specificially designed for this
purpose. Equivalent to the MKH-80 except it's been redesigned to give
even frequency response up the 50khz. I understand that took a fair
amount of design work.
I believe I've seen notes about a few others as well, but can't remember
which they were.
